The book café Paradis Books & Bread in North Miami has closed following controversy over asking Fox News political analyst Gianno Caldwell to leave due to his conservative views.

Caldwell recounted on Fox News feeling shocked and disappointed to be asked to leave solely because of his politics.

Caldwell said, “I never thought I would make international news for being a Florida man kicked out of a restaurant because of my conservative values.”

He added that the incident was a “microcosm of what we’re seeing across the country.”

The incident went viral on social media. Paradis later announced its closure, blaming harassment from Fox News followers for their decision.

They detailed continually facing threats since the incident and struggling to maintain the café as a left-leaning space and business.

While honored their space empowered many, the owners said the challenges of the public political role it played and impacts on their personal lives made continuing unfeasible.

They thus closed Paradis, attributing the difficult decision to these complex pressures.
