Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez issued a stark warning about the consequences of a Trump victory in 2024 during a recent CNN interview.
She said electing Trump again would threaten democratic integrity and the next election’s verifiability given his attempt to overturn 2020 results through force.
“We need to understand what we are staring down in this country. If Donald Trump is elected president of the United States, we do not know if there will be a verifiable next election that has integrity,” AOC said.
Ocasio-Cortez called the impacts of another Trump term “grave” and not a joke, saying democracy must be protected through progressive values.
When asked about concerns over Biden’s age and mental fitness, which polls show most voters have doubts about, Ocasio-Cortez pivoted to note Trump is around the same age and has faced many more indictments.
“He already tried to, we saw on January 6th, he tried to overturn the results of a presidential election by force, by inciting a riot. And I, you know, I think we need to be very, very realistic about the grave, grave impacts of a Donald Trump election. It is not a joke,” AOC said.
“It is not a game. It is not a game. We need to protect our democracy and ideally it’s going to be on progressive values,” she said.
She expressed confidence Biden will be one of the most successful modern presidents.
“I mean, I think right now, when it comes to the President’s age, folks are talking about how he’s 81 But we have to look at first of all, Donald Trump is around the same age of 77 years old, they could have gone to high school together,” she said.
“And beyond that, Donald Trump has 91 indictments. And what I know who I’m going to choose is going to be the one of the most successful presidents in modern American history.”
Ocasio-Cortez’s comments portrayed the stakes of the 2024 election in dire terms and aimed to shift focus to Trump’s controversies rather than address Biden’s vulnerabilities raised in polls.
