At the Munich Security Conference, Sen. J.D. Vance argued that the $60 billion aid package for Ukraine stalled in Congress would not fundamentally change realities on the battlefield.

Sen. Vance said, “The problem in Ukraine … is that there’s no clear end point.”

He noted limited US weapons manufacturing capacity and said there is no clear endpoint to the conflict.

Vance said, if the package progresses, “that is not going to fundamentally change the reality on the battlefield.”

He continued, “Can we send the level of weaponry we’ve sent for the last 18 months?. We simply cannot. No matter how many checks the U.S. Congress writes, we are limited there.”

Vance said, “I think what’s reasonable to accomplish is some negotiated peace.”

Vance advocated for negotiated peace talks between Russia, Ukraine, Europe and the US, saying the two-year war will ultimately end that way.

However, Ricarda Lang of Germany’s Greens party countered that Putin has shown no interest in peace and halting weapons supplies now would prolong the war or allow Putin to win.

Lang claimed Putin “has no interest in peace at the moment.”

Cutting off war supplies to Ukraine would mean “either you are prolonging the war or you give up Ukraine and Putin wins,” added Lang.

The conference came as Ukraine withdrew from Avdiivka after intense combat.

Speaking there, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said Congress’ delay in approving aid has reduced the flow of US weapons and ammunition, with a direct impact at the front lines in Ukraine.

Stoltenberg said, “Every week we wait means that there will be more people killed on the front line in Ukraine.”
