Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected calls for unilateral Palestinian statehood, saying it would reward Hamas terrorists after their recent attacks.
He praised Israeli soldiers for their heroism and vowed to continue pursuing Hamas leaders underground in Gaza.
Netanyahu opposed the Biden administration granting Palestinians a state as an outcome of the war, calling it unconscionable.
Hamas leader Haniyeh reiterated Hamas would not release hostages without an end to the war and Israeli withdrawal.
Netanyahu dismissed criticism to hold early elections, saying unity was needed against enemies.
He asserted Israel could enter Rafah to fight Hamas while evacuating civilians.
Israeli President Herzog agreed statehood now would reward Hamas, and peace required first addressing security and an Israel-Arab agreement before a Palestinian solution.
Herzog said, “We should offer a vision of peace … but I think we have to add an element of reality. …. It won’t happen if we don’t find real solutions for the security question of Israel.”
Herzog called Iran’s regime an “empire of evil” fueling radical Islam.
