Atlanta city councilman Antonio Lewis was briefly detained by police for possessing marijuana during a traffic stop for a suspended registration.
Body camera footage shows the officer giving Lewis two options: hand over the marijuana or face a more thorough search.
“I’m going to be honest with you, I smell marijuana coming out of your vehicle,” officer Kenneth Wilson said. “So you got two options here: you can either give it to me, and we’ll be cool. I’ll just give you a ticket for it, or I’m gonna bring dogs and all that s—, and I’m gonna find all of it.”
“Yes sir,” Lewis said.
Lewis handed over an unsmoked blunt and was cuffed, but later cited and released.
“You said you’re a city councilman?” Wilson asked. “Well, make sure you tell everyone Officer Wilson treated you fairly.”
The possession of marijuana in Atlanta was decriminalized in 2017, reducing the penalty to a $75 fine.
