DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, facing impeachment, expressed that deaths caused by illegal aliens should not be politicized.
House Republicans have sought to impeach him due to the federal government’s failure to protect Americans from illegal immigration.
Mayorkas recalled a tragic case involving the deaths of a 71-year-old woman and her 7-year-old granddaughter in a Texas crash caused by a human smuggler.
He acknowledged the tragedy but emphasized that such losses should not be politicized.
“I shared a very, very, very private video of my daughter after the crash,” mother Elisa Tambunga said. “And I made him watch it and I said, ‘Don’t you dare look away. You need to see what’s happening.’ And he watched it. And from that moment, I saw [a] human come out, I saw emotion come out. It hit him.”
Angel Families have blamed Mayorkas’s actions at the southern border for the deaths of their loved ones, with one mother suing the Biden administration for her daughter’s rape and murder by an MS-13 gang member.
“All [DHS] had to do was make one phone call to El Salvador to know he was an MS-13 gang member on the list,” Angel Mom Tammy Nobles said.
President Biden has been criticized for not acknowledging the National Day of Remembrance for Americans Killed by Illegal Aliens, which was initiated by former President Trump to raise awareness about victims of illegal immigration.
