Southwest Airlines is facing criticism for its new Recaro seat design set to debut next year, with customers expressing concerns on social media, likening the seats to “lawn chairs.”

The airline claims the seats were designed for enhanced comfort and support, based on extensive research, but social media users have expressed dissatisfaction, with some stating they will switch to Delta Air Lines.

Southwest boasted, “multi-adjustable headrest cushion for enhanced head and neck support.”

The airline claims to provide “ultimate comfort while maximizing seat width and overall support.”

The designs are “based on extensive research covering Customer and Employee perceptions of color, comfort, and their aspirations for the overall onboard experience.”

Southwest responded by clarifying that the social media video does not fully represent the seats, emphasizing the enhanced features and comfort of the new design.
