Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will testify before the House Armed Services Committee about his failure to disclose his hospitalization.
This revelation came after Austin was hospitalized for prostate cancer without informing President Joe Biden, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, or Deputy Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks.
“The Department of Defense has confirmed to the House Armed Services Committee that Secretary Austin will testify before the Committee on February 29 on his failure to disclose his hospitalization,” House Armed Services Committee spokesperson Justine Tripathi said.
The Pentagon stated that at no point was national security compromised and that Austin had transferred some authorities to Hicks during his absence.
Austin has apologized to Biden for not directly informing him and stated that the President has expressed confidence in him.
