Thousands of migrants from 73 different countries crossed California’s southern border in just one week, with Chinese nationals representing the fastest growing group.

Many are traveling through Latin America after flying to Ecuador, where no visa is required, before reaching the U.S. southern border.

Migrant encounters hit 300,000 incidents in December 2023, marking the highest total for a single month ever recorded.
