A powerful atmospheric river storm hit California, causing catastrophic flooding in Southern California, with Los Angeles receiving a record-breaking amount of rain.

The storm led to hundreds of landslides and mudslides, resulting in damage to buildings and infrastructure.

Three people died in Northern California due to fallen trees.

“Our first responders have been actively responding to this historic storm since yesterday afternoon,” Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said. “I have spent time with our fire chief meeting with Angelenos impacted by the storm. The City has leapt into action to protect our most vulnerable Angelenos, and we will continue to work around the clock to help those in need throughout this storm.”

The storm prompted a State of Emergency declaration in eight counties, with thousands of first responders mobilized.

The storm continued for a third day, but its effects were expected to diminish.

However, concerns about landslides, mudslides, and potential weak tornadoes persisted.

Heavy snowfall in the Sierra Nevada mountains posed avalanche risks.

Another round of rain was expected, potentially leading to minor flooding due to saturated ground.
