Former Gov. Nikki Haley, vying for the Republican presidential nomination, appeared in the cold open of “Saturday Night Live,” engaging in a mock debate with cast member James Austin Johnson’s portrayal of Donald Trump.
“Why won’t you debate Nikki Haley?” Haley asked Trump.
The segment referenced Haley’s New Hampshire town hall gaffes, including her initial avoidance of mentioning “slavery” as a cause of the Civil War, to which she acknowledged her mistake.
“Yes, I probably should have said that the first time,” she said in reference to her failure to mention slavery.
“And live from New York, it’s Saturday night!”
