An Oklahoma state trooper narrowly escaped a serious injury after a speeding car crashed into his traffic stop, propelling him through the air.
Trooper Jesse Gregory recounted the harrowing experience, emphasizing the dangers faced by law enforcement on the roadside.
Gregory said, “That’s our worst fear on the side of the road, is obviously getting hit by a car.”
“I remember the entire thing, and honestly, as soon as it happened… I immediately knew I just got hit. And the biggest fear was, how bad?” he recalled.
“The fact he put his blinker on and we traveled all the way to the outside lane – which we love – so when I do make a passenger side approach, I’m not having to worry about traffic or watching cars. And so, in my head, I was like, boom, that’s brownie points. You know, this guy cares about my safety, his safety. You know, we’re not going to try to stop on the inside shoulder,” explained Gregory.
“It’s something that happens way too frequently,” he concluded.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol shared a graphic dashcam video of the incident, highlighting the impact of distracted or impaired driving.
Despite the terrifying ordeal, all individuals involved were treated and released.
The trooper commended the driver he had pulled over for prioritizing safety by maneuvering to the outside lane.
The authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, underscoring the need for vigilance and adherence to traffic laws to prevent such incidents.
