Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents have apprehended over 46,000 migrants in the past four weeks, averaging 1,600 per day.

This figure is a significant decrease from the record-high 80,185 apprehensions in January.

Family units accounted for nearly half of the encounters in the first quarter of FY24.

The decrease in January’s numbers is attributed to historical seasonal trends and increased enforcement activity in Mexico, according to CBP officials.

“Consistent with historical trends and enhanced enforcement, the first two weeks of January saw an over 50% decrease in southwest border encounters between ports of entry according to preliminary figures,” CBP officials stated.

“The men and women of CBP continue to enforce our nation’s immigration laws at and between ports of entry and continue to work with our Mexican partners along our shared border,” they said.
