President Joe Biden plans to visit East Palestine, Ohio, to commemorate the one-year anniversary of a train derailment that caused a hazardous chemical spill.
The visit is intended to address the administration’s efforts in protecting the community and holding Norfolk Southern accountable for their actions.
Biden’s decision to visit follows criticism for not visiting the area in the aftermath of the disaster.
“President Trump is meeting with the citizens of East Palestine, and he will never forget them and what they are going through. Contrast that with Biden and the federal government, who have failed them from the beginning,” Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung said.
Residents were allowed to return home after toxic vinyl chloride gas was vented and burned, and former President Donald Trump had visited the area, providing bottled water to residents.
Despite previous delays, Biden’s visit is expected to take place to offer support to the affected community.
