Naperville, an Illinois suburb near Chicago, considered a plan for residents to house migrants in their homes due to concerns about migrant housing issues from neighboring Chicago.

However, the city staff decided against it, stating that other state and federal agencies were handling shelters for migrants.

The idea was initially proposed by city council member Josh McBroom, who suggested a sign-up sheet for residents willing to host migrants.

“They’re voting for people that have supported this open border policy… am I being provocative with my proposal? A little bit, but I’m being genuine, too,” city council member Josh McBroom said.

McBroom explained that his proposal was aimed at residents who supported the “open border policy” of the Biden administration.

“Over half of the town voted for this policy. Are you gonna help out? Because we’re not going to spend tax dollars on it,” he said.

Despite the viral attention, the city ultimately decided not to proceed with the plan.
