Scientists have achieved a breakthrough in rhinoceros reproductive health, successfully impregnating a southern white rhino via in vitro fertilization (IVF) as part of the BioRescue project.
This marks a potential path for saving the critically endangered northern white rhino species.
Despite setbacks including the deaths of the surrogate mother and teaser bull, a 70-day-old male fetus was discovered, offering hope for the species’ survival.
The next steps involve selecting new surrogates and developing a northern white rhino embryo for implantation.
