Whoopi Goldberg addressed criticism over the Academy Awards nominations, emphasizing that not everyone can win and that it’s subjective.

She highlighted that it’s the entire Academy family that votes for Best Picture nominations, and not everyone gets what they want.

Goldberg also defended the film “Barbie,” stating that it’s meant to provide entertainment and make people think about the real world and the world of Barbie.

“And that’s what I want to sort of point out. It’s not the elites, it’s the entire family of the Academy who vote for Best Picture nominations. We all vote for Best Picture, everybody,” Goldberg said.

“You don’t get everything that you want to get.”

Co-host Sunny Hostin noted that she was disappointed in Ava DuVernay’s “Origin” failing to win.

“That was, in my view, a snub,” Hostin said.

“But there are no snubs –,” Goldberg cut in.

“Not everybody gets a prize,” Hostin said.

“And that’s what you have to keep in mind: not everybody gets a prize. And it is subjective. Movies are subjective. The movies you love may not be loved by the people who are voting,” Goldberg said.
