Meta Platforms is implementing new measures to protect teen users on Instagram and Facebook, following regulatory pressure and criticism.
Teens will no longer receive direct messages from those they don’t follow or are not connected to by default.
Parental approval will be required for certain app settings, and on Messenger, users under 16 will only receive messages from Facebook friends or phone contacts.
Notably, adults over 19 cannot message teens who don’t follow them.
These changes aim to enhance safety for young users on the platforms.
