Denver Health, a hospital in Colorado, is facing a crisis as waves of illegal immigrants are overwhelming the system with unpaid medical bills, leading to the turning away of patients.

In 2023, the hospital provided about $136 million in uncompensated care, with a significant portion going to people living in Denver.

The situation has forced the hospital to cut costs, including closing beds and postponing renovations.

Their CEO, Donna Lynne, warned that the hospital is at a critical point due to costs exceeding revenues, leading to the rejection of patients, particularly in mental health and substance abuse areas.

Lynne said, “What I think is not being said is that Denver Health is at a critical, critical point, and that we need to take this up in 2024.”

“Because our costs exceed our revenues, we are turning down patients every day, particularly in the area of mental health and substance abuse,” she continued.

The influx of illegal immigrants is causing a strain on the hospital system and costing local taxpayers millions in unpaid medical bills.

This aligns with broader concerns that illegal immigration imposes significant financial burdens on the healthcare system.
