The Netflix documentary “American Symphony,” produced by Barack and Michelle Obama, failed to earn an Oscar nomination in the documentary feature category, despite industry expectations.

Michelle Obama campaigned for the movie, and its omission was a surprise, as it was considered a frontrunner.

However, it did receive a nomination for the original song “It Never Went Away” by Jon Batiste and Dan Wilson.

The documentary follows Jon Batiste’s journey to write an orchestral symphony while dealing with his wife’s cancer diagnosis.

The Oscars also snubbed another documentary favorite, “Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie,” focusing on Michael J. Fox’s battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
