Reese Witherspoon faced criticism for using fresh snow in a recipe for a winter drink, sparking a debate about the safety of eating snow.
Witherspoon defended her actions, emphasizing that she grew up drinking unfiltered water and even microwaved the snow to show it was clean.
She laughed off suggestions to filter the snow, pointing out that she and others had consumed tap water without issue.
“First we scooped the snow into cups and we added salt,” Witherspoon said. “And we added salted caramel syrup and chocolate syrup and then we decide to add some cold brew just to have a yummy coffee flavor.”
“Snow days were made for Chococinnos,” she wrote.
“No no no … snow is not made to eat … you can get seriously sick,” one commenter wrote.
“I thought eating snow was like dangerous to our health,” another said.
“Can you put snow in a clear cup and let it melt. I just want to see if it’s safe to eat first,” another wrote.
“So many people on here saying that snow is dirty,” Witherspoon later said. “So we went and took snow from the backyard and microwaved it.”
Many commenters supported her, citing their own experiences consuming snow without any adverse effects.
