Senator Mike Lee has called for a formal investigation into the January 6 congressional committee after revelations that committee members deleted encrypted files just before the GOP took the majority in 2023.

The committee’s actions, refusal to allow House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to appoint representatives, and selective release of security camera footage have raised concerns.

Lee accused committee members of hiding tapes and called for a formal inquiry into the committee’s actions, citing instances of deleted deposition tapes.

“Why didn’t Liz Cheney and Adam Kizinger ever refer to any of these tapes? Maybe they never looked for them. Maybe they never even questioned their own narrative. Maybe they were just too busy selectively leaking the text messages of Republicans they wanted to defeat,” Lee wrote on X.

“That is true. I can confirm that,” Rep. Barry Loudermilk said.

“And all of the videotapes of all depositions are gone. Again, we found out about this early in the investigation when I received a call from someone who was looking for some information off one of the videotapes and we started searching and we had none,” he said.

Former Trump aide Cassidy Hutchinson’s deposition, which included a disputed account of Trump’s actions during the protests, has been a focal point.
