via NBC

Ian Somerhalder, known for “The Vampire Diaries,” has transitioned from Hollywood to a Southern California farm to focus on family and other projects.

He expressed contentment with the decision to step away from acting, emphasizing his love for filmmaking but acknowledging that he had an amazing run.

Somerhalder and his wife, Nikki Reed, have embraced a farm lifestyle, producing their own food and living a more natural existence.

Their farming documentary, “Common Ground,” explores regenerative agriculture and its impact on farming and climate.

“I love what I did for a really long time,” Somerhalder said. “I don’t miss any of it. I love making films, I just did it for so long. We had an amazing run.”

“We produce most of our own food, I live in my cowboy boots,” he said.

Reed also highlighted the beauty of children participating in food production and understanding its origins.

“When you see the way that nature operates, you find compassion,” Reed said.

“It’s a beautiful thing to see what’s happening with children, to watch them participate in the growing of their food and the understanding of what food is and where it comes from,” she added.

The couple hinted at future plans, referring to this phase as their “2.0 version.”

“By fusing journalistic expose with deeply personal stories from those on the front lines of the food movement, ‘Common Ground’ unveils a dark web of money, power, and politics behind our broken food system. The film reveals how unjust practices forged our current farm system in which farmers of all colors are literally dying to feed us,” the “Common Ground” website reads.
