The Navy relieved Capt. Geoffry Patterson, commander of the USS Georgia sub’s blue crew, due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command.

The official statement did not provide specific reasons for his removal, but it emphasized the Navy’s expectations of commanders.

Patterson was arrested on Jan. 9 on charges including driving under the influence and improper lane change.

The USS Georgia is an Ohio-class guided-missile submarine with two sets of crews, blue and gold, and Capt. Christopher Osborn now leads the gold crew with no impact to operations.
