Secretary of State Antony Blinken conveyed to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that there is no military solution to Hamas and that Israel will need to accept a Palestinian state, a notion that Netanyahu reportedly rejected.
The Biden administration is attempting to work around Netanyahu and establish ties with other Israeli leaders in anticipation of a post-Netanyahu government.
However, there are obstacles, as Israelis believe they can win the war and many oppose a Palestinian state due to Hamas’s actions.
Gallup reported that “twice as many Israeli adults supported an independent Palestinian state (61%) as opposed one (30%).”
Blinken and President Biden are pursuing a peace model that prioritizes the Palestinian issue, in contrast to the Trump administration’s approach, and are pushing for a Saudi-Israeli peace deal contingent on a Palestinian state, despite previous progress.
