The UK government warns that the West is entering a “pre-war” era and needs to prepare for potential conflicts on multiple fronts, including with Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea.
British Minister of Defence Grant Shapps emphasized the need for increased military spending and highlighted actions taken by the UK to prepare for multifaceted conflict.
Shapps also warned against letting down Ukraine, as it could signal weakness to potential adversaries like China.
Similar warnings and preparations are being made by other European nations, with concerns about Russia’s aggressive actions and the need to be ready for potential conflict.
“To avoid war with Russia, countries on [NATO’s] eastern flank should adopt a 3-year time horizon to prepare for confrontation,” Poland’s head of National Security Bureau Jacek Siewiera said.
These warnings reflect a shift from a post-war to a pre-war world, with an emphasis on the need for increased military readiness and preparation for potential confrontations.
