An abandoned baby was found in a dumpster near an apartment building in Greenville, North Carolina.
The infant, only one or two days old, was discovered alive and taken to ECU Health for evaluation.
The incident has prompted an investigation by detectives.
Resident Jaylen Parker said his sister found the baby in the trash and brought the child inside before police arrived.
“The temperature was in the low 40s when she found the baby, according to the report.”
“I woke up. My sister brought a baby in the house,” Parker said. “I was shocked. And then that’s when I found out what had happened.”
The report also highlights the state’s Safe Haven law, which allows parents to surrender newborns to designated safe persons within 30 days of birth, aiming to prevent such situations.
The police have requested anyone with information to contact the Greenville Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
