Jerry Springer’s longtime representative expressed disappointment at his exclusion from the “In Memoriam” segment at the 2024 Emmy Awards, following his death in April at the age of 79.

Fans also voiced surprise on social media.

Springer, known for hosting “The Jerry Springer Show” from 1991 to 2018, is considered a pioneer in the daytime talk show genre.

The Emmy producer explained that the selection process for the memorial segment is handled by the Television Academy.

“Uhhh… where the heck was Jerry Springer in the memorial?!” one X account posted.

Additionally, fans noted the absence of other prominent TV stars from the segment, such as Raquel Welch and Ray Stevenson.

“The selection process is handled by the Television Academy, so we focus more on the creative side of it,” Emmy producer Jesse Collins said.

“And it’s just about making sure that when we are acknowledging someone we give them their just due and it’s respectful and loving, and we just try to make sure that we accomplish that.”
