The FAA is reportedly aiming to increase diversity and inclusion by hiring individuals with psychiatric disabilities and other targeted disabilities.

The agency emphasizes the importance of diversity in achieving its mission of ensuring safe and efficient travel.

Additionally, Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg highlighted the significance of equity and accessibility in transportation.

“Diversity is integral to achieving FAA’s mission of ensuring safe and efficient travel across our nation and beyond,” the agency stated, noting that diversity is “critical.”

“At its best, transportation can be a powerful engine of opportunity, connecting people to jobs, education, and resources—whether they live in a big city, a rural community, or anywhere in between,” Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg said.

“Ensuring equity and accessibility for every member of the traveling public is one of the Department of Transportation’s highest priorities,” he added.

On a related note, the House recently approved a bill to reduce Buttigieg’s salary to $1 due to perceived failures.

In the past, concerns have been raised about the FAA prioritizing diversity over public safety in the hiring of air traffic controllers.
