Severe cold weather in Chicago has left many electric vehicles, particularly Teslas, stranded and unable to charge at the Oak Brook Supercharger station.
The subzero temperatures have significantly impacted EV batteries, causing frustration for owners who are unable to charge their vehicles.
This has led to long lines and abandoned cars at charging stations, with some individuals resorting to alternative transportation.
“This is crazy. It’s a disaster. Seriously,” one Tesla owner said.
The situation has shed light on the challenges EVs face in extreme winter conditions, with experts emphasizing the need to precondition the battery for optimal performance.
“Like any new technology, there’s a learning curve for people. It’s not plug and go. You have to precondition the battery, meaning that you have to get the battery up to the optimal temperature to accept a fast charge,” Chicago Auto Trade Association’s Mark Bilek said.
Tesla has not responded to inquiries about the issue.
