New Chitose Airport reported before the incident, that “New Chitose Airport is experiencing flight delays and cancellations today due to heavy snow. Please check with your airline for details.”

“I felt a boom,” a passenger to reporters.

“Like we had hit something and jerked upward the moment we landed. I saw sparks outside the window and the cabin filled with gas and smoke,” they continued.

This marks the second airport crash in Japan within weeks, following a fatal collision at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, which resulted in five deaths.
