GOP lawmakers are increasingly supporting Donald Trump ahead of the Iowa Caucuses, prompting concern from Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, who believes Republicans are giving up on demanding the best for the country.
Many Republican leaders have endorsed Trump, with some attributing this to fear of their own voters.
Murkowski, known for her anti-Trump stance, won re-election despite facing a Trump-backed primary challenger. (Trending: Fauci’s COVID Missteps Are Coming Back To Haunt Him)
“Republicans are giving up,” Murkowski said.
“Why shouldn’t we demand the best this country can offer?”
She advocates for an alternative to Trump versus Biden and questions the necessity of primaries.
“There is room for an alternative to Trump versus Biden if we make that space, but we so pigeonhole ourselves into thinking that those are our two choices. We’ve already done that before a single primary has happened,” she added.
“Makes you wonder why we do the primaries.”
Despite her views, Trump holds a strong lead in Iowa and is the favored nominee for 2024.
