Florida Governor Ron DeSantis emerged as the winner in the latest Republican Party presidential primary debate, according to a post-debate poll by J.L. Partners.
The poll showed that 55% of viewers believed DeSantis won, while 31% favored former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley.
The outcome of the primary is expected to hinge on whether the field narrows down to two candidates, potentially creating a one-on-one race against current frontrunner Donald Trump. (Trending: GOP Rep. Mace Clashes Directly With Hunter Biden At Hearing)
James Johnson, cofounder of J.L. Partners, said, “Republicans who watched the debate last night gave a clear message: that person should be Ron DeSantis.”
“He was seen as the winner over Nikki Haley as well as the best to go up against Trump,” he continued.
Johnson said, “Though a different, punchier DeSantis was on display last night, this tallies with what we have known for some time.”
“Nationally the Republican primary audience is very socially conservative, does not want the US to get involved in foreign wars, and is one modeled in the image of Donald Trump,” he explained.
“DeSantis ticks those boxes more than Haley, and was successful in showcasing those assets last night,” Johnson affirmed.
“The question now is whether he can convert his debate boost into a clear second place showing in Iowa,” he concluded.
The debate was marked by intense exchanges between DeSantis and Haley, with DeSantis being seen as more aligned with the preferences of the national Republican primary audience.
The impact of the debate on the upcoming Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary was also discussed, with weather expected to play a significant role in the Iowa caucuses.
Life-threatening winter weather is expected beginning tonight with heavy snow. White-out conditions likely Fri into Fri night. To follow, extreme wind chills as low as -45° possible through early next week.
