Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty to federal tax charges in California, which do not implicate President Joe Biden.
Special Counsel David Weiss indicted Hunter on nine charges, including tax evasion and filing a fraudulent form, which could lead to a maximum of 17 years in prison if convicted.
Legal experts criticized the scope of the indictment, noting that it did not include charges related to unregistered foreign agent activities or influence-peddling. (Trending: GOP Rep. Mace Clashes Directly With Hunter Biden At Hearing)

Jonathan Turley, an attorney and professor at George Washington University Law School, wrote, “The steps taken by Hunter to evade taxes are impressive, but not nearly as impressive as the efforts of the Justice Department to evade any direct implications for his father, President Biden.”
According to the indictment, Hunter Biden “willfully failed to pay his 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 taxes on time, despite having access to funds to pay some or all of these taxes” and “spent millions of dollars on an extravagant lifestyle.”
Additionally, Hunter is a material witness in the House impeachment inquiry of Joe Biden, where the Biden family’s financial dealings are being probed.
