The Centers for Disease Control has awarded $540,000 to Transgender Equity Consulting, a firm run by Cecilia Gentili, a trans woman and former sex worker.
The grant aims to combat HIV transmission within the transgender community.
The firm, which focuses on LGBTQ diversity and inclusion, has received $360,000 of the total funding so far, with the funding continuing until 2026.
The grant will be used for outreach events, distribution of HIV prevention materials, and addressing social determinants of health for black and Latinx transgender and queer communities.
Gentili’s past experiences and advocacy for decriminalization of sex work and trafficking survivors are also highlighted.
