AI-generated deepfake videos of Taylor Swift promoting a fake Le Creuset cookware giveaway have misled fans into making purchases.
The videos, circulating on Facebook, urged viewers to click a button to complete a survey, leading them to fake websites and ultimately asking for a shipping fee.
The scam, promoted by a Facebook account, exploited Swift’s association with Le Creuset. (Trending: Clintons Scramble To Delete Embarrassing Photo, But Were Too Slow)
“Hey y’all, it’s Taylor Swift here,” says the fake Swift.
“Due to a packaging error, we can’t sell 3,000 Le Creuset cookware sets. So I’m giving them away to my loyal fans for free,” it continued.
This incident is not unique, as other celebrities like Tom Hanks and Gayle King have also had their likenesses used in similar scams.
Tom Hanks wrote, “BEWARE!! There’s a video out there promoting some dental plan with an AI version of me. I have nothing to do with it.”
