European Union official Margaritis Schinas has urged Taylor Swift to help increase youth voter turnout in the upcoming European elections, coinciding with her “Eras Tour.”
Schinas hopes Swift can replicate the impact she had in the US, where her social media post led to a surge in voter registrations.
The official emphasized the importance of youth participation and highlighted Swift’s upcoming European tour, expressing optimism that she might encourage young Europeans to vote. (Trending: Clintons Scramble To Delete Embarrassing Photo, But Were Too Slow)
“Now it’s the moment for them (youth) to have a say in the ballot box, to attribute praise or blame on European policies, and it is therefore crucial that we have, as we had in 2019, a high level of participation of young Europeans in the June elections,” said Schinas.
“No one can mobilize youth better than young people, that’s how it works,” she added.
“Taylor Swift will be in Europe in May,” said Schinas.
“So I will very much hope that she does the same for young Europeans and I very much hope that someone from her media team follows this press conference and relays this request to her,” added the bureaucrat.
The 2019 European Elections saw a significant increase in turnout, largely attributed to youth participation, and this year, several member states will allow citizens aged 16 or older to vote.
