President Joe Biden faces challenges within the Democratic base as Donald Trump leads among Hispanic voters and young people.

Biden’s support has declined, with 20% of Black voters considering a third-party candidate.

Despite brightening economic views, Biden struggles to increase voter enthusiasm.

Trump holds a lead in the GOP nomination contest and the general election.

“I think he’s done a reasonably sound job, but it’s not been a ‘wow’ administration,” said Biden voter Michelle Derr. “For me, it’s disappointing that we have two old white guys in this race again. I want to look forward to the future.”

“Although Trump hasn’t grown support among Black voters, he has closed the deficit because third-party voters come off of Biden’s support among Blacks,” David Paleologos of Suffolk’s Political Research Center said.

“A young voter or a person of color voting ‘third party’ is a vote away from President Biden, and a vote away from President Biden is a vote for Donald Trump.”

“Donald Trump, he has integrity,” said California Republican Joyce Masumoto. “Biden and the Democrats − always bringing up Donald Trump. He’s not even doing anything and they’re blaming things on himself.”

Vice President Kamala Harris also faces difficulties with job approval ratings.

Overall, Biden’s job approval is at 39%, with 58% disapproval, while Harris has a 33% approval rating and 57% disapproval.

“I voted for him the first time around and I was happy with his presidency and voted for him a second time,” said Republican-leaning independent James Traylor.

“It’s exciting to have a woman vice president; that’s cool,” said teacher Sara Falls. “But … I don’t really know what she’s up to. What is she up to? What does she do? I don’t know. He’s not, like, my guy,” she said of Biden. “Bernie Sanders was my guy.”

These challenges suggest potential erosion of support within Biden’s coalition for the upcoming election.
