TikTok users are concerned about the app’s request for their iPhone passwords to view content, with experts noting the reasons behind this demand remain unclear.
Dataconomy lists potential causes, including security measures, app updates, glitches, and “restricted mode.”
Experts caution against sharing passwords due to security risks, but some users found workarounds, such as updating the app or bypassing the prompt. (Trending: Democrat Targets U.S. Troops With New Gun Control Law)
“Some users have reported bypassing the passcode prompt by selecting ‘cancel,’ indicating that this might indeed be a bug rather than an intentional feature,” Dataconomy wrote.
This issue follows previous controversies, including privacy concerns and warnings from regulators about national security risks associated with the Chinese-owned app.
“They include the possibility that the Chinese government could use it to control data collection on millions of users, or control the recommendation algorithm which could be used for influence operations if they so choose, or to control software on millions of devices,” FBI Director Christopher Wray said.
