After Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump’s refusal to accept the result became evident.
Efforts to prevent Biden from taking power on Jan. 20 emerged, including pressuring Republican officials in Michigan to rescind votes certifying the election results.
Newly revealed recordings suggest Trump, along with RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel, pressured the officials to reject votes, indicating an attempt to subvert American democracy. (Trending: Trump Releases Must-See TV Ad Ahead of 2024)
Despite failed efforts, this pressure represents a brazen example of election interference.
The report is expected to be of interest to investigators.
According to The Washington Post, a senior Republican official said, “What is the downside for humoring him for this little bit of time?”
“It’s not like he’s plotting how to prevent Joe Biden from taking power on Jan. 20,” added the official.
Trump reportedly said on the recordings, “We’ve got to fight for our country.”
“We can’t let these people take our country away from us,” he reportedly continued.
Trump’s spokesperson defended his actions, citing election integrity, despite the election not being rigged or stolen. The “Big Lie” still persists within Team Trump.
McDaniel reportedly said, “If you can go home tonight, do not sign it…We will get you attorneys.”
“We’ll take care of that,” Trump allegedly confirmed.
Trump’s spokesperson said, “All of President Trump’s actions were taken in furtherance of his duty as President of the United States to faithfully take care of the laws and ensure election integrity, including investigating the rigged and stolen 2020 Presidential Election.”
