The Biden administration’s Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is suing Grand Canyon University, the largest Christian university in the U.S., alleging deceptive practices in its doctoral programs and illegal telemarketing.

The university is accused of misrepresenting itself as a non-profit, misleading students about program costs and duration, and making abusive telemarketing calls.

The Department of Education previously fined GCU over $37 million for misrepresenting doctoral program costs. (Trending: Melania Trump Announces Big Change For 2024)

Samuel Levine, director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, said in statement, “Grand Canyon deceived students by holding itself out as a non-profit institution and misrepresenting the costs and number of courses required to earn doctoral degrees.”

“We will continue to aggressively pursue those who seek to take advantage of students,” he continued.

According to the lawsuit. GCU’s, “marketing activities have also resulted in millions of abusive telemarketing calls to consumers who have specifically requested that Defendants not solicit them, and to individuals on the National Do Not Call Registry.”
