A woman who set fire to Wyoming’s only full-service abortion clinic has been ordered to pay nearly $300,000 in restitution.
Lorna Green, who is serving five years in prison for the arson, must pay the full amount sought by prosecutors to the clinic’s insurer, the building owner, and the clinic’s founder.
The arson delayed the clinic’s opening by almost a year, and it is now the only abortion clinic in Wyoming after another closed due to rising costs. (Trending: Could Taylor Swift Save Biden In 2024?)
Julie Burkhart, founder and president of Wellspring Health Access, said, “Not only did we have the emotional struggle and that trauma from the arson but also it was quite challenging for us financially. So I’m glad this is the final piece and it has been put to rest.”
Green’s attorney, Ryan Semerad, wrote that Green, “looks forward to a productive and peaceful life after her term of incarceration.”
Green, a mechanical engineering student, expressed remorse for the crime, which she said was driven by anxiety and nightmares about the planned clinic.
The arson occurred as new laws in Wyoming seek to ban abortion in nearly all cases, with the laws currently on hold pending a lawsuit.
