Gov. Gavin Newsom urged California politicians not to rush in following Colorado’s move to block Trump from the ballot, emphasizing that the U.S. Supreme Court will likely have the final say.
He discouraged efforts to disqualify Trump, stating that candidates should be defeated at the polls rather than through political distractions.
“There is no doubt that Donald Trump is a threat to our liberties and even to our democracy,” Newsom said. (Trending: Founding Dixie Chick Member Dies Unexpectedly)
“But in California, we defeat candidates at the polls. Everything else is a political distraction.”
Various officials in California had been pushing to remove Trump from the ballot, but Newsom’s statement dampened these efforts.
The Colorado decision has spurred similar actions in other states, with some seeking to expedite their legal strategies to bar Trump from eligibility.
