The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) recovered the bodies of two hostages in Gaza: Eden Zacharia, 27, and IDF soldier Ziv Dado, 36. Their bodies were identified after being brought back to Israel.

During the operation, two soldiers were killed and others wounded. The Israeli government emphasized its commitment to rescuing hostages but acknowledged the danger involved.

Israeli government spokesman Eylon Levy said that “Wherever it is possible … to swoop in … we will try to do just that,” when asked if more the IDF would be conducting more rescue missions.

The spokesperson said Israel’s strategy was to use “unrelenting military pressure” to coerce Hamas to release to hostages.

Israel has recovered several hostages’ bodies and believes that up to 20 hostages may have been murdered by Hamas in captivity.
