Special counsel’s office plans to use data experts as witnesses during Donald Trump’s election interference trial in early 2024.
The experts will use technical information to show when certain electronic devices were used and when specific apps were accessed on a phone, including Trump’s White House cell phone.
They aim to demonstrate when Trump’s phone was unlocked and the Twitter app was open on January 6, 2021.

“Prosecutors with the special counsel’s office said in a court filing Monday that they anticipate calling up to three data experts as witnesses during the election interference trial, which is currently scheduled to take place in early 2024,” the report found.
“Those three individuals, who are not named in the filing, would be able to present technical information to a jury about where certain electronic devices were used, or when certain apps were accessed on a specific phone,” the report added.
Prosecutors claim their experts can determine “the periods of time during which the defendant’s phone was unlocked and the Twitter application was open on January 6.”
The experts will also use phone data to track the crowd’s movement on January 6 during and after Trump’s speech near the White House.
Special counsel Jack Smith asks the Supreme Court to decide whether a former president is immune from prosecution for alleged crimes committed while in office.
This sets the stage for a historic ruling.
