Many conservative-leaning residents from Washington and California have been moving to Idaho, as indicated by voter registration data.
The majority of those moving to Idaho from these states are registered as Republicans, with a smaller percentage as Democrats or unaffiliated.
Reasons for the migration include Idaho’s strong conservative values, robust economy, and business-friendly environment. (Trending: US State Unveils Controversial ‘Gender Neutral’ Laws)
Data published by the Idaho Secretary of State’s office revealed that out of the roughly 20,000 Americans who moved from Washington state to Idaho, 62% registered as Republicans, compared to 12% as Democrats, 24% as unaffiliated and 2% as “other.”
Republican Idaho Secretary of State Phil McGrane said, “We weren’t surprised to find that Republicans are moving to Idaho. However, we were surprised to see just how overwhelming it was. Of those moving to Idaho, the majority of voters from 48 out of the 49 other states are Republican.”
“That said, it shouldn’t be a shock that conservatives would be attracted to Idaho’s robust economy, business-friendly environment, and strong conservative values. Idaho has become a destination for those who embrace the values and quality of life that define our great state,” McGrane added.
This trend reflects a broader pattern of residents leaving liberal states for more conservative ones, driven by concerns over issues such as crime, taxes, and pandemic restrictions.
