Sen. John Fetterman urged Senate Democrats to engage in border security talks with Republicans amid a surge in migrant numbers.

He emphasized the need for a reasonable conversation about border concerns, citing the high volume of border encounters.

“I hope Democrats can understand that it isn’t xenophobic to be concerned about the border,” said Fetterman,

Adding, “It’s a reasonable conversation, and Democrats should engage.”

“Honestly, it’s astonishing. And this isn’t a Fox News kind of statistic,” exclaimed the Democrat about the record numbers at the border.

“This is the government’s,” he explained.

“You essentially have Pittsburgh showing up there at the border,” described the Pennsylvania senator.

Negotiations between the parties have shown signs of progress, with Biden signaling openness to compromises.

The Democrats’ Sen. Chris Murphy criticized the GOP’s “hardline demands to shut down the border”.

Sen. James Lankford contended, “We [Republicans] cannot work to secure other nations while our own border remains a massive national security risk.”

Fetterman, known for his pro-immigration stance, rejected crackdowns on Dreamers and criticized a border security bill passed by the GOP-led House.

“I haven’t met anyone that can have a really crisp, cogent solution or easy solution on, ‘Well, what do you do when you have roughly a city similar in size of Pittsburgh coming up to the border?'”

He emphasized the complexity of addressing the issue of large migrant numbers at the border.
