Indonesia’s Marapi volcano in the West Sumatra province erupted, sending a thick plume of toxic ash and smoke nearly 10,000 feet into the air.
Eleven climbers were found dead, and 12 others were missing.

The eruption caused volcanic ash rain in the Nagari Lasi area, prompting officials to distribute masks and warn residents to stay indoors due to health concerns.
Mount Marapi remains on Alert Level II, and people are advised to avoid activities within a two-mile radius of the volcano’s crater.
