Harvard University will offer a for-credit course on pop singer Taylor Swift for the spring semester, focusing on her lyrics, creative composition, and connections to literary figures.
The course is set to be taught by transgender Stephanie Burt, a biological male.
The class will also discuss how Swift uses social media, stage presence, and fashion as vehicles for her art. (Trending: Biden Shamefully Removes God From National Address)
The course has already generated significant interest, with hundreds of students signing up, and will require students to write papers and create music videos.
“It’s a literature course,” Burt said.
“I love that I’m able to do this in a way that both gives people the chance to study and write about things they love and maybe build some bridges to things they would not have otherwise encountered that they might also love,” Burt added.
“I think it’s really important to include popular music or culture into normal pedagogies to get students engaged, and I think that’d just be really fun,” graduate student Shayna Perates stated.
Similar courses on Taylor Swift have been offered at various other universities.
