The Oakland city council voted for a resolution supporting a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, with a unanimous vote.
However, they rejected an amendment condemning international terrorism and Hamas’ instigation of the war.

“There’s not been beheadings of babies and rapings. Israel murdered their own people on October 7th,” claimed a speaker.
“Calling Hamas a terrorist organization is ridiculous, racist and plays into genocidal propaganda that is flooding our media and that we should be doing everything possible to combat,” said another resident.
“I support the right of Palestinians to resist occupation, including through Hamas, the armed wing of the unified Palestinian resistance,” announced a third resident.
“As an Arab, asking with this context to condemn Hamas is very anti-Arab, racist,” claimed a speaker.
“Hamas is not a terrorist organization just because the U.S. and Israel deem it. Hamas is a resistance organization that fighting for the liberation of Palestinian people and their land,” claimed another opponent to the bill.
The public comments went viral on social media, with speakers denying Hamas’ actions and supporting their resistance against occupation.
